The "merge" behavior is unacceptable in some setups, where the same name
resolves to different IPs depending on whether you're inside or outside
of the firewall. There should be a config option to have the VPN DNS
completely override the local DNS when the VPN is active.

Binary package hint: mythtv-backend
mytharchive uses mythtranscode to remove commercials and convert video,
but mythtranscode is part of the mythtv-backend package. There's no
need for me to run mythtv-backend on my laptop just to be able to
archive things to DVD.

Adding that section to xorg.conf does work around the problem.
Hopefully that provides enough information for someone to figure out and
fix this problem.
