In 11.10 (64 bit) I cannot get the scrollbars working at all, I have
moved my old settings directory to .xchat2.old and still no scrollbars
appear in the main chat window (to reveal previous chat).
In Settings->Preferences - Scrollback lines is set to 500 (the default I
think)
