My reason for reopening this, is because there are new users coming from
other OS's such as Windows and when they download the drivers for their
printer, and try installing, it will fail on them. It creates a broken
package and they have to go online and search for a fix, which if they
don't know w

I do agree with going with the 195 drivers for lucid. Harry, just
wondering how you got the 190 drivers from the nvidia ppa to work. For
me, they are still conflicting with xorg and ubuntu-desktop.

Shouldn't nvidia-glx-190 be added since it is the latest stable? Plus by
then there will most likely be a newer stable release anyways. The 190
drivers from the nvidia-vdpau ppa have not been updated yet for xorg
7.5. There are 195 drivers (beta) that don't conflict, but they do not
show up in Hard
Installing linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic did not solve the
problem for me.

I also get this. I have a Creative X-Fi card. Stereo works fine, 7.1
works fine, but 5.1 (which is what I would like to use) has this sound.
It gets worse as you move the sliders for panning and fading.

When the volume slider is put to the bottom, volume gets muted. When you
put it back up, the slider jumps back to the bottom and stays muted.
Sometimes it will unmute, but you can get it to unmute every time by
sliding all the way up to the pa
