Hey, I have the same problem. I have been using xfce for a couple
months, and am quite new to linux in general. I saw that some people
provided their xsession-error files, so heres mine.

Update: I have been able to resolve the mic issue using the method described at
the link below. Since then I have not had any problems with improper shut down
or kernel panic.
