I have this error, but after this all works fine.
I can remember that when I use an old Toshiba Satellite A20 and I moved
from Dapper to Edgy I had the same (or very very very similar) error.

Same for me, HP Pavillion dv6276ea with Nvidia GeForce Go 7400.
If I install the drivers from binary (downloaded from Nvidia website)
compiz works fine.
