after fiddeling around somehow, I found following combination most
useful:

*AND* in ~/.xsession:
xinput set-prop 'AlpsPS/2 ALPS DualPoint Stick' 'libinput Accel Speed' 1
I also put an xinput command into ~/.xsession
xinput set-prop 'AlpsPS/2 ALPS DualPoint Stick' 'libinput Accel Speed'
0.1
to have some difference in pushing the stick hard or soft

But 0.1 is too slow, I've tried 0.25 and find it's usable.

To get Boxee running, install the packages linked by tamim7 and then put
this command into the terminal:
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libfaad.so /usr/lib/libfaad.so.0
Works for me on 10.04 x64.
