I just wanted to confirm that Tim's workaround/fix of changing the boot
command line in /etc/default/grub works wonderfully!

Jithen's fix worked nicely, with one little error: When the patching
halts due some errors, I had to press ENTER (which corresponds with 'n')
twice on two occasions. Answering 'y' as per the instructions, did NOT
work.
Running kernel 3.14.4 on my c720 now, booting up quickly and with
working touch
