This is something a bit odd as up until yesterday with Gutsy this didn´t
happen although it had previously in Feisty.
Something changed as now it happens with only 2 or 3 windows open so
making the whole compiz desktop experience pointless.

I have the same problem on my Acer L100 which has the same integrated
graphics card.
The cursor disappears when you log out of a user name and back to gdm.
Also the whole log in gdm screen moves with the cursor so the log in box
will move around the screen.
I am using the nv driver at the mom
close this as it is something that is no longer a problem.

I have not been able to get katapult to work at all since updating.
I have deleted katapultrc and purged the old install and reinstalled
with no joy.
Running katapult from a terminal gives the following message:
X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 169
Major opcode: 147
What did solve the problem was turning off usplash which has allowed the
system to boot properly.
This should be marked a duplicate of the usplash amd64 bug.

Funnily enough, I am using the same motherboard/case combo as Ian
Oliver. I have updated my bios which has cured other problems but not
this one.
Etch and FC5 installed and booted without any problems. I was able to
get the live CD to run without any problem, it has been the installation

I've managed to fix this now - it was a crappy bios problem.
The question does remain why did Etch survive when nothing else did
including FC5 and Sid, but there you go.
