We're back to kvm-62 (stock hardy setup) and everything seems to be
working fine this time, we're running seven guests and we haven't
noticed any kernel trace or network problem so far.

Actually this bug is not fixed.
The proposed fix is good (and is the same used in #96644) but the
zabbix-1.4.2-4ubuntu3 package only fixed the zabbix-agent.init script
and not the server init scripts (I double checked looking at the package
sources):

No, please don't add virt-viewer as a dependency, we don't want to
install x and gtk since we are doing everything using CLI tools (virt-
install, virsh, kvm).
As you can see the virt-viewer error is not blocking your installation
and you can easily avoid it if you pass the "--noautoconsole" optio
