ntu Tweak did the trick.
Previously it works without it, hence the problem.
Of course, it may be good to add some warning to Ubuntu Tweak to prevent
similar problems for other users.
Not sure if that helps users who inherit the option from previous
versions.

Same here. Also, even opening local subtitles doesn't work for DVDs. I
don't know if this is related, so I am waiting for this bug to be fixed
first.
