Actually, this article is kinda wrong on two fronts. First, the
assumption is made that removing a package shouldn't remove all of the
packages that depend on that package. If you remove ALSA, sorry, but
everything that depends on ALSA should also be removed. That's not a
bug, that's the package

First, this seems to happen only when kmail is telling me that there are
more messages in a folder than there are on the filesystem.
Second, if you delete the messages on the filesystem and then restart

Okay, so I found a pattern, and a TERRIBLE UGLY HORRIBLE workaround.
Here are the steps to replicate this problem:
1) Make sure basket is installed. If basket is installed and normally
started up with kontact, I would guess that it would crash if you tried
to start kontact now.
2) Start basket
BTW, kontact says that it is Version 1.2.4 (enterprise

Okay, this was happening because the installer wasn't using the same
"Browser" class as the other two adept programs to display its list. To
fix this I just switched it to using Browser. A patch will follow.

1) I think this is solved with the inclusion of software-properties
2) While I agree on the poor user experience, this is still a wishlist
and not a bug.

Here's a patch that fixes this issue for me. I recommend that we have
somebody running MySQL and somebody running SQLite try this patch out as
well.
