FWIW, I'm still using Maverick, and the only way I have been able to get
decent video playback and (almost?) no static was to blacklist radeon in
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf. I imagine the following would also work:
# sudo echo "blacklist radeon" > /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kludge.conf

I installed and updated Lucid tonight on my Toshiba M45-S269 and am
having the same issue. When starting with the AC adapter plugged in, I
have to invoke cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state to get gnome-power-
manager to recognize the battery. (I haven't tried booting from
battery.) So I'm not so su

64 4000+ machine and had the same errors.
I downloaded OpenOffice 2.2 for Windows and found that it worked
correctly.
