I don't know if this is helpful information or not but I tried out the
latest Fedora Live CD and everything worked fine with that. Both sound
devices were recognized and installed and sound output works fine. No
other hickups whatsoever. See attached dmesg output.

Hello,
I made a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10 on my new computer but I cannot
get audio to work at all. No soundcard gets detected even though lspci
lists two audio devices. I spent the whole day yesterday looking for a
solution and tried out various things seen in forum post
