With the most recent kernel update the reconfigure trick has stopped
working for me. I just moved to the xorg-edgers ppa to fix the problem.
Found some instructions people can follow.

running maximized in unity (the chrome issue was marked a dupe of this

This is still broken in 9.04. I'm the only person re-installing over an
existing set of partitions including a swap who has had this
experienced? If someone knows another bug of which this is a dupe
please let me know or mark it as such. This is pretty ridiculous.

After the installer complained it took me back to the partition wizard.
I selected manual again and I set the swap partition not to be used. I

Sorry for such a long response on this bug Feisty Herd 5 is still
corrupting the display. DPMS seems to be the problem. How can I help
