I had the same problem with mine, where it was pegged at 2800Mhz.
("current policy: frequency should be within 2.80 GHz and 2.80 GHz.")
Try the following: For each of your processor cores:
Core 0:
sudo cpufreq-set -c 0 -d 800Mhz -u 2800Mhz
Core 1:
sudo cpufreq-set -c 1 -d 800Mhz -u 2800Mhz
etc.,
Also affects ECS EVEm v1.1 motherboard with PhoenixBIOS. Failed a BIOS
upgrade. Will try recovery procedures, and advise whether the upgrade
solved the problem.

/var mounts as read-only in Ubuntu Edgy, last update was about two weeks

/var is ext3, would this be some kind of safety feature, if there is a
problem with bad sectors or whatnot?

Thank you for your bug report.
Your laptop does not shutdown or reboot properly? What does it say on

Agreed, that workaround does work, using the Alt Char key and the key
with the third-level euro sign on it. It still doesn't address the key
map, no, but it does help with typing, as Daniel said.

Would this also apply to the package that sets the right-handed or left-
handed flag? I'm not sure what actually takes care of that; synaptics or
a gnome package. If it's a gnome package, it should be flagged under
this bug too.

Thank you for your bug report.
I have a few questions:
What make and model of laptop is it?
What version of Ubuntu is it?
When you log in, and get the battery message depicted by the first
screenshot, could you please attach the output of the 'tail dmesg'
command.
Thanks!

My laptop has the same problem. Pointing, clicking, right-clicking, and
tap-to-click worked fine. The side-scroll and middle button did not.
I performed a "sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg" and it
corrected the problem, along with another xserver problem I had.
See https://wiki.ubuntu.co
GreatBunzinni, could you try
"sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg", select your video driver, select
resolution 1280x800, and then restart?
This worked for me. I had to select the SiS driver instead of "VESA"
which it was defaulted to.
Is this a mis-detection of the card?

True. I installed Ubuntu fine with my 6800, just no accelleration. I
really didn't notice the lack of accelleration until I tried some OpenGL
screensavers. I agree there should be some kind of note, but other than
that, politics wins this one... We can always provide the nvidia driver

Perhaps if we added a "how to" to that Ubuntu How-To site, wherever it
is. I dont' think it's a Canonical site, but it's very useful. Contents
