I get this error but I did not upgrade to a development release. I
checked the multiarch setting referenced in the link and it looks
correct:
$ cat /etc/dpkg/dpkg.cfg.d/multiarch
foreign-architecture i386
I did have an upgrade problem where my machine locked up while
installing package

Bingo Samuel. I had a space in the search bar and didn't realize it.
Maybe the search bar could have a different color background to help it
stand out.

I'm not sure what has changed but this is now working for me. I checked
xrandr -q output and it is identical to my last post. Looking in recent
updates in Synaptic I do see xserver-xorg-video-intel. Not sure if it's
related. At any rate, it seems to be working fine now.

I can't enable the FGLRX proprietary driver for some reason but the
default driver with Intrepid is working fine for me. I have had
problems and I've gone back and forth a few times experimenting with
different options. My xorg.conf is very basic at this point. I just

tried purging and reinstalling. My bookmarks were still intact after
all of that so I'm not completely confident that all the configuration
files were purged. Any other ideas?

I am getting this same crash on Intrepid. It was working fine and then
all of the sudden everytime I connect, the app just closes. If I run
vinagre from the command line I get exactly the same output as macro182.
