Sorry to bump this again, but it seems the root cause is the same for
bug #370855 ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
terminal/+bug/370855 ) but there has been no activity on that (or
anything else I can find) for quite a while.

I also just started getting this. I can't see any patterns with
websites, and it occurs whether or not my plugins (ABP, Noscript,
firegpg, flashgot, torbutton) are enabled or disabled. A new user
account also had the same problem.
This is on karmic, 2.6.2.6.31-14-generic, and firefox 3.5.4.
Hmmm
Not gnome-panel's fault as I originally thought, but glib2. Is 'Fix
committed' a suitable status?
** Package changed: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) => glib2.0 (Ubuntu)
** Changed in: glib2.0 (Ubuntu)
Status: New => Fix Committed

Yup, it appears that the patched libglib2 in that second link works
perfectly. Now its just a case on getting that version into the main
ubuntu repo...

Ah. The screensaver died because I was hitting the panel and 'focusing'
on some of the buttons, not just because of large mouse movement.

Hmmm If I move the mouse a lot (ie, from one side of my desk to the
other) the screensaver closes... There's a setting for mouse hysteresis,
isn't there? Tell you what would be really useful, a screensaver
settings button in the screensaver chooser ;-)

Also, something else strange. I think its at least related...
If I get a nautilus window open on my second monitor (either by terminal
or an icon on the desktop), running mplayer (by doublecliking a video
file in nautilus) opens it up on the first screen. If, however, I run
mplayer from the panel,
Still an issue on a clean install of 8.10
There's quite a few issues with gnome-screensaver! Most seem to be (ime)
to do with detecting mouse movement, if that helps anyone!

This affects me also.
Opening nautilus from the panel or menu results in nautilus opening on
the main display. Opening nautilus from the terminal or from an icon on
the desktop opens nautilus on the correct display.

I don't think this is a duplicate of #43710 (related and similar, so
I'll leave it linked for now, but not the same)
I have the same problem (one screen fine, second flashing lines and
colours) on my ASUS A6Jc
Same issue here. Mouse movement does nothing (x86, gnome-screensaver,
galaxies), but any key press or mouse button press kills the
screensaver.
