I was told in private email that this behaviour is due to the
/desktop/gnome/font_rendering/dpi key being an integer rather than a
float.
You can do something like this to repair:
(find out existing value):
$ gconftool-2 --get /desktop/gnome/font_rendering/dpi
(reset to float)

I have not seen the issue in 10.04, or for some years in fact.

Per my comment at the time, I ran
$ mv ~/.openoffice.org* /tmp
to confirm:
$ ls -ld ~/.openoffice*
drwxr-xr-x 3 mary mary 4096 2009-04-24 11:29 /home/mary/.openoffice.org
That's the ~/.openoffice.org/ directory that got newly created after the
original 'mv'. There is no ~/.openoffice.org
On the non-working system, I just used the Guest account, and OpenOffice
works in that account. So this must be a property of my user account,
although apparently not the ~/.openoffice.org/ directory per my test of
moving it.

As regards the "device" "working" with Bluetooth, I am not quite sure
which device you mean or what would count as working.
Assuming you meant the phone, it appears on "hcitool scan":
$ hcitool scan
Scanning ...

I am attaching the output of dbus-send --system
I do not have other Bluetooth devices aside from the two phones tested.

Yes I am positive. Same laptop, same USB Bluetooth dongle, and it fails
with two separate Nokia phones, both of which worked with Hardy.
The USB device is being recognised: the Bluetooth icon appears in my
panel, and the following in syslog when I plug it in:

The mentalwealth theme does not seem to actually be in the package, so
this is not a bug in Ubuntu. If anyone is interested, the fix for

Regarding Alexander Sack's instructions to reinstall, I found that this
worked ONLY IF I closed Firefox first.
With Firefox closed, "sudo reinstall firefox-2" works:
Setting up firefox-2 (2.0.0.14+2nobinonly-0ubuntu1) ...
Please restart any running Firefoxes, or you will experience problems.
