Also facing this crash not just after login, but also after
plugging/unplugging the second monitor. The fix mentioned in the #6
didn't help, running xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4.

Same thing here (Lucid, kernel 2.6.32-22) after I installed thinkfinger.
nm-applet, rhythmbox, empathy stopped working, some other apps started
to behave weird.
After reading this bug report I started to log in using my password and
everything seems to work as it should.
Hope this will be fixed
