I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, and I hope that I'm not
misunderstanding you, but there's no reason to recompile the whole
kernel just to apply a patch to a single module. Get the source for your
kernel, copy the config file from the boot directory, copy the
Modules.symvers from the header
This bug is indeed quite frustrating. I can consistently reproduce it on
my Latitude E6400 by using the pointing stick and touch pad
simultaneously. One might wonder why anyone would want to use both at
the same time, but when you use the pointing stick exclusively as I do,
it is simply unavoidable
Looks like there is one already: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/296610
It's not getting much attention though.

I'm experiencing the same behavior as Paul:
If I accidentally touch the touchpad while using the pointing stick, the
pointer will behave erratically for a moment until it is reloaded as a generic
mouse.
I tried disabling the touchpad by setting "SendCoreEvents" to false in a
HAL FDI policy file,
Just to clear something up about my last comment. The CD-ROM problem
has nothing to do with this bug, and was a problem with my own hardware.
I know this now because I replaced it and the problem went away. The
boot issue still stands though. Sorry if I mixed anyone up.

gutsy livecd fails i
I'm having this problem in Gutsy with kernel 2.6.22-14 with an Albatron
PX865PE Pro II motherboard.
This is what I get after loading the module:
[ 42.796268] ice1724: Invalid EEPROM (size = 255)
[ 42.796289] ICE1724: probe of :03:02.0 failed with error -5
Here's what I get from lspci:

To be complete, here's syslog from a default boot.

gutsy livecd fails in booting w/o irqpoll option on Abit IP35-Pro motherboard

Well, this sucks! I decided to reinstall and it just won't work this
time. I must have gotten really lucky before. I tried booting with
'irqpoll' and while that helps to complete the boot process, when I try
to install the system it fails with an error:
[Errno 2] No such file or directory:
'/r
I'm also having this problem on an Abit IP35-E. I'm guessing SATA is in
IDE mode as the BIOS doesn't offer any options in that regard.
After booting the LiveCD a bunch of times I finally got lucky and
managed to install the system. The hangs seem to be completely random
at the start of the boot
No problems with Edgy here. No configuration necessary. Suspend works
out of the box and no suspicious syslog messages or lock ups.
Thank you.

I'm having a similar problem on Feisty with a Compaq X1000 (ipw2100) and
a DLink AP (DI-614+). I made a post about it on the Forums http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=376055";>here
describing all the details. Basically it has no trouble associating with
the router but it times out during
