Its likely that on my device the sound chip is broken because the sound
does not even work with (preinstalled) Win7 and sound drivers from
asus.com (Win cannot find any sound device)

This is indeed a regression compared to dapper.
Would be great if you could fix this before release so people having
NFS-Homes can work with OOo on Edgy..

Switch to console using ctrl-alt-F1
Then do a /etc/init.d/kdm stop (maybe with gdm its the same...)
Now the screen is blank and the console is hidden. No maintenance or something
is possible anymore with that...

release because it is really annoying and IMO must not happen in such a
good Distro as ubuntu ;)
