In my case, as a workaround execting
cpulimit -l 20 -p
Helped in reducing the process CPU usage to 20%.
Please, let me know if this is an unefficient way to do it.

It also happens with me, across different distros (Lubuntu 13.10, Xubuntu 12.04
and Elementary Luna).
They all have nVidia boards with compositing enabled. My workaround was
selecting Gnome Do preferences through the Gnome Do itself rather than clicking
on the menu.

I cannot tell exactly when this happened, but surely after upgrading to
Ubuntu 12.04, but on my last bootup it lasted from selecting the distro

The problem appears to be SOLVED.
I commented out the last line of the fstab that mounts an nfs file share
(thanks to the suggestion of user roadmr).
Restarted and now after 3 attemps of suspending and hibernating worked without
any problems.

Same thing for me in Ubuntu Classic. Like Edward Deng, in Unity there's
not even a pixel indicator. The workaround suggested by Teo Siang Hoe
using the shell script worked for me. The problem is that i have to do
it every time I run skype.
