Same here with LaCie 500 GB. It says:
"Invalid mount option when attempting to mount the volume 'Multimedia'."
My WB hdd works fine (usb too).
It seems that Ubuntu "thinks" the usb hard disk is a cd rom drive.
Because in gparted i can choose "mount on /media/cdrom0" an that works.

When I press a key, hold it and click with the mouse while doing that
the key will get repeated and repeated. The only way to stop it is to
restart the x-server which isn't very easy because shortcuts won't work
and clicks just sometimes.

network-manager problem.
Try your self. Switch to konsole and type:
/etc/init.d/gdm stop
Now try sudo apt-get update or ping some website. It won't work.
