I have the same issue, the laptop has AMD 8645HS, Nvidia 4050 and the
system load with latest kernel on any ubuntu based distro is in 80's and
for the previous LTS it is Ok but still one core is consistently at a
100% nevertheless.

For me the same..
I had netgear wg111v2 which had rtl8187 drivers..and using karmic. i tried to
bring adapter in ad hoc mode which failed interface to bring up

I am facing the same problem with Jaunty. I had this problem with Ubuntu
7. My Wifi connection used to work fine with 8.10. I have read lot of
links on net about this problem. Is there any fix or defect logged for
this?
