Through normal usage gnome-terminal fails to save its bash history once
closed. The .bash_history file exists in my home directory.
This problem only occurs if using the X button or File > Close to close

I'm not sure what happened here. I did an upgrade and something in samba
errored. The terminal froze and I restarted it. I was then told that I
couldn't get a lock on apt/dpkg.
I ran these:
sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/lock
sudo rm /var/cache/apt/archive

I installed KDE4 to test it out, put KDM instead of GDM and Gnome begins
behaving weird.
1) The mentioned user switcher applet (A problem since this is the only GUI way

Sorry whats a backtrace? I've never even used evolution, I did an update and
