As noted in my (unfortunate) duplicate bug report, I am also having this
issue. I've recently tried the Gutsy Tribe 1 and Tribe 2 live cds with
identical results. I'm including the text of my original bug report
below. The xorg.conf file is the default from the live cd.

I am experiencing graphical corruption in the form of horizontal lines
in the center of the screen. The lines do not app
I can confirm an issue that appears to be the same as Miguel's
(horizontal lines in feisty). I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 with a Radeon
Mobility 9600 Pro (128mb) and WXGA (1280x800) screen. Currently using
the "ati" open source driver. Drivers in edgy work fine. I can use the
same xorg configuration
Similar problem with ATI Mobility 9600 Pro on Dell Inspiron 8600 (WXGA
display) using kernel 2.6.20-15-generic (feisty fawn). Garbage is
limited to center of screen. Again, "fglrx" driver works but "ati"
displays flickering.
