I am having a similar problem with the released version of 9.10 (fully
patched to date).
I am running a Panasonic CF-W4 notebook, it has Intel 915GM chipset.
The internal display is 1024x768 and it works (though I do get funny
blits of garbage now and then--this did not happen in 9.04).

Good news! If I remove the applet, the menu item will return.
Bad news: There is an old idea in user interface design, the "principle
of least astonishment".
This automagic feature is a bad idea. If one is dismayed that the quit
menu item is missing, why would one remove the only quit feature t
Another vote for this being a mistake.
I have a notebook computer. This means:
1. I have limited screen real estate.
2. I seldom quit or logout, I nearly always suspend to RAM.
The menubar is *very* privileged territory. To require a special power

Or, do I post a new one?

Seeing similar problem with release version of Hardy. In my case I
don't get tons of error output, just OS errors. I am guessing that the
suspend is trying to unmount or otherwise put the USB drive to bed, and
that messes with accessing the USB drive.

How about where XMMS says "Server reported: 403 max listeners reached",
could Rhythmbox say something more informative than "Unknown playback

I rebooted into my light (default) Feisty install and the problem
doesn't seem to be there. (I don't think so, it is a little elusive
sometimes.) So looked again at the packages I had installed in my fat

I discovered unplugging the ethernet and plugging it back in again (and
Feisty doing the "The network connection has been disconnected"/"You are

I uninstalled vtun from my heavy Feisty install the problem is *much*

easily works around the problem for that moment.)
