Okay, I've been following this bug for some time, why hasn't this gotten
fixed after YEARS of the bug being open? Sorry to rant here, but why not
just get one that works? I've been using the program in my distribution,

I found that if you try to install the package 'splashy' and 'splashy-
themes' on 10.04 it cannot install 'splashy'. It installs 'splashy-
themes' however. This means that until you fix the broken dependencies
you cannot install any packages. Try the following if you have this
problem:
sudo apt-ge
It seems to hang when Unity loads... maybe it is the video driver
causing it to all hang. Sorry that I can't get any more info!
