Just installed fresh Linux Mint 20.1 XFCE. With Thunar v1.8.14 the
problem persists:
Moving a file from local to mounted smb share (two thunar windows) and then
back again works: refresh ok.
Moving a file from remote to a bookmark (e.g. Documents) will not trigger a
refresh on the mounted drive/
This happens also if the text file resides on a cifs mount. How to reproduce:
Create a textfile on cifs/smb mount
Open it with mousepad. Change something. The error message pops up when trying
to save the document

workaround. But the GNOME people do NOT seem to be interested in
solutions that kind. They're dreaming of a "tablet" gnome, disregarding
the wishes of their users... So for me it looks like that GNOME is
dying, which is a shame
Well, you should not remove all of gvfs, but the gvfs-fuse package.
That can be done using the "sudo apt-get remove gvfs-fuse" command or using the
"Synaptic" package manager.

problems.
I could solve the problem by removing gvfs and using the package "cifs-utils".

This bug affects me in Ubuntu 12.10 /Mint. I am not able to play videos on an
SMB Share. VLC starts, stutters and freezes after a short time. Only killing of
the gvfsd shuts down VLC as well.
No problem in other distros, such as Fedora!

I would like to confirm the bug. It happens on Xubuntu 12.10. The
workaround from Matthias Kretz solved it. (I had to replace SIGHUP with
1 - then it worked. It took me weeks to locate that problem - it should
be fixed!
