If I open a video using the dolphin file manager or via command line, it
the video plays.
Once I close the VLC window and then try to open another video, I can
see the VLC icon show up next to the cursor like it's about to open, but
it never does.
I have to do:
pkill -9 vlc

small text window with a prompt for the superuser (root) password.

did a 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade' today and unity bar and panel now
appear...
However the notification applets on the far right of panel (network,
sound volume, mail/chat, "me" menu and power button) do not respond to
mouse clicks.

Upon logging into the computer, the background image, files and folders
located on the desktop all appear on the screen.
The unity bar on the left never appears and the panel on top never
appears.
The mouse pointer stays on the spinning "busy" poi
I have simular problems on resuming from standby/hibernate. The unity
bar on the left and the panel on the top appears bleached.
Also when the screen saver kicks in, the unity bar on the left never
hides.
Using nVidia's proprietary drivers.

When I try to run Banshee on 11.04 Alpha, I see the main screen for a
brief second, then it crashes. I ran it on the command line and got
several warnings and then a "System.TypeLoadException" error.

Just booted the Lubuntu 10.10 Beta 2 Live CD and the Live CD has the
same problem.
evince is the installed pdf viewer but "xdg-mime query default
application/pdf" returns "epdfview.desktop"

Ah, this is the problem, it seems evince is installed and not epdfview,
but edpfview is set as the default application.
The only change I remember doing is replacing Lubuntu's default mail
client of sylpheed with Thunderbird. Maybe that pulled in extra gnome
app dependencies? I will re-install L

Yes, I just looked in the /usr/share/applications directory and there is
no epdfview.desktop file.
I haven't done many modifications to the system after installing it on
my netbook, I could do another install of Lubuntu from scratch and see
if the file is missing after the install finishes.

Hmmm, we may be getting somewhere, got an error when I typed that
command, then it launched chromium. However if I use the file manager
(PCManFM) to open a pdf it opens correctly.

Just tried a bunch of different pdfs from various websites and they're
all doing the same thing, it downloads the file correctly but when you
click on the downloaded file on chromium's download bar it just makes
another copy of the file instead of opening it with the default pdf
viewer.

On Lubuntu 10.10 Beta 2, when I download a pdf file in Chromium, then
click on it to open it up, the pdf is being redirected back to Chromium
instead of the pdf viewer.
This results in Chromium "downloading" the pdf again, this time from
gwibber is working fine for me at the moment

Sorry for the typos, I had to submit this bug via the command-line
ubuntu-bug tool, then verify it on my adroid phone's browser...
This is on a computer I use at work. I have Ubuntu 10.10 with an nvidia
card at home as well and haven't experienced this problem.

After last apt-get upgrade, computer comes up and ubuntu bootup logo
comes up.
I hear the drums login sound but the ubuntu bootup logo never goes away.
I can switch to other text terminal screens (ctrl-alt F1, etc..) and
login via the command line.
I got this error on Maverick.
