I had the same problem on up to date Debian Lenny on 2 different
computers and Sika's modified keytouchd-launch fixed it.

Yes you're right. The Windows driver update had disabled "Wake on LAN
after shutdown" and the Linux driver couldn't bring the interface up
properly. I've now applied the Windows update, enabled the "Wake on LAN
after shutdown" feature in Windows device manager and now the card is up

Identical problem affects Edgy with kernel 2.6.17.11.
I upgraded the kernel for other reasons right after install and also
installed all recommended patches so do not know if this problem existed
in 2.6.17.10 and the default Ubuntu install from the alternate CD.
My optical drive is a MATSHITA DVD
