I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 13.10 to Sony Vaio. I had bluetooth file
transfer (both ways) working nicely before that in 12.04. Now I faced
this problem.
I managed to partially fix the problem of transferring files from phone to
computer by doing the following:

remembered anymore what an relaxed and still and smoothly moving cube
and windows felt like.

I have a HP ProBook 4710s. I'm suffering the same issue, but I have to
echo 0 to cooling_devices from 0 to 10 to have the fan at the usual
speed (there are devices from 0 to 15 on this laptop). It seems that the

thanks for the explanation. In case of lightdm-set-defaults, the CLI
usage shows the available options (after you find the command in
/usr/lib/lightdm -path ..).
This still does not solve the missing documentation for the lightdm.conf
conguratoon file. Therefore I added the Ubuntu 12.04

I had the same issue on my old Dell laptop, B43xx wlan card. It was so
annoying that I reverted back to 10.04, in which there are no problems.

I have the same problem. I have a fresh install of 12.04 and a desktop
spanning two monitors. With 'smart' window placement windows (e.g.
xterm, emacs, gedit) seem to always appear at the top left corner of the
screen on top of each other even though there would be plenty of space

I have now tested a bit Cedrick Schieli's Nvidia-96 driver in Natty and it
seems mostly to work OK, BUT:

screen). When clicking one of the squares, I may get a new workspace or not and
if I do, the number of the workspace
