I too have this problem. It is hard to replicate but occurs about 30% of the
time I open an instance of nautilus.

Someone mentioned on Ubuntu Forums that the problem could be with the
real time kernel. I was using Ubuntu Studio, so I would have been using
the real time kernel.

Just letting you know that I have moved back to Gutsy and have had no
crashes for a week now, so the problem is most likely something with
Hardy. I will go through the other checks you listed anyway and let you
know if there is a problem.

I should just emphasise that this problem started occurring immediately
after installing Hardy. My hard drive had no problems prior to that and
I had not reformatted it in more than year.

I have just completed a fresh install of Hardy 8.04. The same problem was
occurring after I upgraded from Gutsy to Hardy, and I was hoping a fresh
install would repair the problem but it appears not.

Upon further investigation it looks like the problem is with the Window Rules
plugin. If I enable this plugin, then restart the computer, the problem
appears. I just have to drag an icon around on the desktop and I get the big
