Could you be more specific on the workaround ? How do we ignore channels ? A
reasonable solution would be to be able to change PCM only, so being able to
ignore channels would work.
Also, you say the bug comes from linux drivers. C

This affects me also, using the following card :

I don't have the exact same symptoms (my subwoofer channel is not
controlled at all, except when choosing the "LFE" connector
I have similar problems.
My sound card has a different channel for basses, which is not affected when I
change the sound using the sound applet.
In jaunty, I would right click on the applet and select the right channels to
modify (eg master and bass).
I agree that removing this step is an improve
