iwconfig bitrate is not set properly
You can fix this temporarily for yourself:
Open window menu (default keybind alt-f3)
Advanced->Special Window Settings
Preferences tab
Check "No border"
Select "Force" from the dropdown menu.
Will permanently fix the issue on your machine.

Alright update:
I grabbed xserver-xorg-video-radeon_6.12.0-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb from:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/amd64/xserver-xorg-video-radeon/1:6.12.0-0ubuntu1
and it works. Not technically a karmic package but who cares?

radeon, not ati driver.
I'm running karmic with all updates installed. An older version of
xserver-xorg-video-radeon might work?

from link above installed with dpkg -i
and changed the section in
/usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/20-video-quirk-pm-acer.fdi to:

true
and then rebooted the computer.
its still hang
