Ok - I don't believe these discs that fail to read are caused by the drive or the CD themselves so if assigning to Linux is appropriate please proceed. Do you know of any tool/utility in Linux that will tell me what format these discs are in so that we can at least determine that format is not curr

Attached is the output of dmesg after I inserted the problematic media. It appears now that this problem only occurs with certain types of media e.g. some music CDs, an Acronis boot CD, Windows XP installation CD. The Dmesg logs also point to this type of problem but I am not sure what could be cau
