screen, keystrokes in the password window are not recorded. Restarting
fixes the problem, but Apport indicates that a crash has occurred
immediately following login and advises that the matter be reported.

My original report was misleading in one respect (I have obviously been
testing too many ISO cases). I could not replicate the problem by
selecting the "Try Kubuntu" option, then proceeding with the
installation, either via the GUI or, as you suggested, by using
"ubiquity -d" in a terminal. In both

I suspect that, because you had a pre-existing 10.04 installation within
Windows, the installer was able to access a configuration file whose
contents were sufficiently close to those of the 10.04.1 version to

I haven't yet been able to check this under Vista or XP, but can now
confirm that the bug does not appear to be machine-specific. The same
behaviour occurs on two of my other machines (a Lenovo M9952-RZ4 box and
an Acer eMachines EL1301) running Windows 7 and generates more or less
identical log fi

Access to Ubuntu One could quite reasonably be offered as an option
during the installation process. However, to make its installation
mandatory, so that only users with a moderate level of expertise can
free themselves of such an unwanted and unnecessary encumbrance, is not
a sensible decision.
