Seeing the same "Failed to request VPN secrets" problem in 14.10, and
can confirm that a workaround is simply to log out and log back in,
WITHOUT rebooting.
#34 works simply because of the logging in and out, not because of
moving/deleting the .gconf directory or its contents.

Unfortunately I can't run a Live USB as they don't work. My system seems
to need the nvidia drivers; it crashes after booting with the nouveau
driver. Should I still bother to test with a mainline kernel? Your
instructions are not too clear as to exactly which version I should use.

Bug #379873 for my hardware: Intel E3300 on Gigabyte EP45-UD3L.
The stock speed of Intel E3300 is 2.5 GHz (200*12.5). I had pushed the
FSB from 200 MHz to 300 MHz in the BIOS, giving 3.75 GHz (300*12.5).
However, "cat /proc/cpuinfo" and "cpufreq-info" incorrectly shows 3.33,
I can confirm this bug is still exactly as described in 13.04. I may not
have the latest kernel, but nothing has changed since the last activity
in 2011, so this definitely is still a confirmed bug.

regarding Kantastisk's workaround, using the "Grab" doesn't help get the
right window title, resulting in ALL windows opening at the bottom
right. to fix that, i manually entered "name=clock-applet" as the value.

I swapped in the smb-browse binary from comment 28. Seems to work, but
the only thing is it doesn't do is to save the passwords into the
keyring. Another big problem I discovered was that if you bookmark any
windows server (eg. smb://server ) that requires password in nautilus,
