Confirmed same behavior here -- desktop effects disabled, yet glxgears
gives 35 - 40 fps.
32-bit, Dell Inspiron e1505, Intel 945GM/GMS/GME Express. Running from
Live CD, since the last time I upgraded before trying it out, I got
burned.

I'd be interested to see how things work with this patch applied to
2.6.24-21, as I don't recall this problem with earlier kernels. Will
post results if I get a chance to try it.

I have a related problem in Gutsy. On wake from suspend or hibernate,
my touchpad seems to be 'reset' such that tapping is enabled and
scrolling is disabled, and configuration via SHM doesn't have any
effect. Now I realize that this is probably because after resume,
events are coming via PS/2 emu
UPDATE:
Tried again when I got home from my laptop... tracks play just fine. 2
differences:
- inside my network instead of over VPN
- connection detected by Bonjour/mDNS instead of connect via specific IP address
Note that in spite of the above differences, playing tracks DID work

DAAP server works fine with other clients (OurTunes, iTunes)

Seeing this on a Dell Inspiron E1505 -- built-in keyboard & trackpad
non-responsive, external USB mouse worked when I plugged one in.
Never had this problem with Dapper or Edgy. /proc/cpuinfo below.
