This just happened (with a single mail source (Hotmail)).

I suspect you have an old/incompatible extension installed somewhere.
Shut down your Thunderbird.
Inside your ~/.mozilla-thunderbird/ there is a profile name that looks
like "wx4ke9ne.default".
Move the "extensions" folder inside it somewhere else (e.g. your
Desktop) and restart Thunderbird.

OK I've had my suspicions for some time but I think there's been a
breakthrough:
I've been using the laptop for 2 weeks with a usb mouse and it never
froze. As soon as I started using the touchpad again, the freezes came
right back.
When I disable the touchpad from the BIOS, it works properly.

It does look different and maybe better with the "Slight" hinting
setting (I believe that's what you meant), but what bewilders me is
that, on my machine, the other hinting settings (Medium, Full) have no
effect at all (I use Subpixel RGB Smoothing).

thing I change when I install Ubuntu for me or others and everybody is
relieved when they see Deja Vu Sans Condensed as the default font. It
takes up much less space on the screen than the grotesque Deja Vu Sans,
it is very legib

This still hasn't gone away, and is troubling me greatly. Burning and
reading CDs is perfect, however DVDs burned in Dapper (Fresh install)
