The proposed workaround works, but I use full disk encryption and the
unlock screen doesn't show up anymore. As a workaround, after switching
on the computer, I wait a few seconds, blindly type the password and the
system boots successfully.
Any ideas on how to restore the disk encryption unlock

bug/limitation partially defeats that purpose.

debhelper, however, it seems something changed in hirsute, dh_strip

A possible workaround is to uninstall it and then install directly from

True, I agree. However, the GUI does not let you know about it. You could
put some comments in the description letting know it should be installed
manually, otherwise, a regular user will have a hard time figuring it out.
Anyway, this is just my personal opinion on it.

OK, it is working now. I previously forgot to manually install the gcc4.9
dependencies.
Just to summarize in case someone went through the same struggle:
1 - Installed Ubuntu 15.10
-> Instead of being prompted for my disk encryption password I get a black
screen! The screen actually goes of!

Yesterday night downloaded and installed suggested kernel. I must say
that in the meawhile and before rebooting systemd also got updated to
the latest at that time. The outcome was worst than before. There is no
way I can enter the disk encrytpion password anymore. Tried previous

Some other differences which probably are not related to the issue, I
use AMD graphic card with fglrx-updates.
