I noticed this issue resurfaced again after updating gtk3 and xfce4 on
ArchLinux. Enabling compositing and it goes away immediately. Turn it
off and redrawing of icons turns into a strange mixture / mess of icons.

Thank you for fixing upstream. I've been using variety 0.6.3 in Arch
Linux for a couple of months now, and it patches in the fix for the
menus. It's been working great for me. The person who maintains the
package will (most likely) adopt any changes upstream in future
releases.

Just happened to me also. Installed the 64 bit version of Kubuntu 8.10
and my inode was 256. Result on boot after install was grub "Error 17"
and in trying to fix in grub shell, got "Error 2" when trying to read
ext3 partition. As with previous poster, lost a couple days trying
