For me this issue occured when I also had the #815996 bug. I was able to
workaround the first but then got stuck with this logout window.

For me this bug has been resolved by upgrading to 11.04. This is very
fortunate since I was affected by the bug about 5 times/day, making it
pretty anoying.

I seem to have the same problem. I have turned off suspend/hibernate as those
features does not work at all anyway. The screensaver blanks the screen after 5
minutes, I have no problem waking it up if I do it relatively soon after the
screensaver kicked in. However, if I am away for a longer per

I have now upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 and the issue remains for me, unfortunately.
Have also tried to change screensaver to xscreensaver but the behavior was the
same, so I wonder if this bug is really related with gnome-screensaver. It is
probably deeper down somewhere.

I suggest you to edit:
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
Adding the following line:
options snd-hda-intel model=3stack-6ch
That worked for me, the volume is still not high, but at least high enough to
be usable.
Possibly you have one of the other models available for this chipset:
