Yes, this is what I did. And I repeated it minutes ago and the picture
disappears again. Not every booting-up, but 1 out of 5 times.
And yes, my system is up to data. System installed on 2010-09-15. Do I
miss anything? Perhaps this is the wrong bug because I don't use any
encrypted home directory

The bug is still present in Lucid. As Phil Ayres describes you can
easily trigger the bug by changing the volume soon after switching to
another track. I use my scroll wheel to change the volume if that
matters.

The problem is not bluez but the settings bluez uses. You can use
hciconfig to put your device into the correct mode.
hciconfig hci0 lm ACCEPT,MASTER
hciconfig hci0 lp HOLD,SNIFF,PARK
should be enough where hci0 is your bluetooth device.

Sometimes I have the same problem. Bluetooth simply doesn't come up. The
Icon in the panel is greyed out and I'm not able to turn it on back
again. I think the problem is udev rule "97-bluetooth.rules" that
doesn't work. You can try to run manually "/usr/sbin/bluetoothd --udev".

I see the same problem on AMD platform with Radeon X1250
(integrated/chipset) and Broadcom BCM4312 wireless card using b43 open
source driver. So this problem is not only related to a Intel 3945ABG
wireless card. Tested radeon.modeset=0 and the problem vanished so far.

Broadcom wl / STA driver is closed source so there is not much you can
do about it. So blame Broadcom :-)

Slow flash videos can't be solved at the moment. There are several other
drivers having problems with flash. Don't complain about ati drivers,
complain about Adobe Flash.
Annoying is, that videos running under VLC... are slow now (with or
without compiz). This wasn't the case under Ubuntu 9.04 and
for checking whole drive and a lot of files I use md5deep:

Same here on my laptop! Same laptop!
Fullscreen videos on build-in display (1680x1050) are choppy no matter I

Besides the PPA from Tormod Volden you can try the PPA from Xorg-Edgers:

But be aware: Both PPAs are (daily) snapshots and can kill you XServer.
If a Snapshot is working fine, leave it as it is. Do not update.

Yes, you are right. But flickering (CPU related) appears even on a X1300
Mobility.
In git you can find several bugfixes due to the flickering/blanking
problem (http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-ati/log).
But I don't know which fix handle your problem. Give it a try.

This bug seems to be a bandwidth problem. When set to 800MHz the DRAM
frequency is at 160MHz. Everything above 800MHz sets DRAM frequency to
320MHz (see http://www.linux-phc.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=46). So here is

In my case this bug only occurs when connected to VPN (Cisco, vpnc). Upgrading
alsa-utils 1.0.17-0ubuntu2 to 1.0.17-0ubuntu3 via intrepid-proposed helps.

Until now the shutdown-problem ("Shutting down ALSA...") occurred only once for
me. After using Power Off Button Ubuntu restarts without sound. But aplay shows
