I was habitually doing a `killall pulseaudio` after login to get rid of
this problem. About 4-6 weeks ago, again after a kernel update, the
problem went away altogether. As the OP, I'm happy to say it's not a bug
anymore. I'm not sure about all the others who are signed up to this
bug.

At this stage, normal video via VLC is fine. Flash and HTML5
youtube/vimeo videos via Chrome are affected, which seems to be this

This bug affects me (on Compaq-Presario-CQ41). It's annoying, because
sometimes it will say time till battery is empty is 0min and then
hibernate my computer even though my batter has >30% charge left. I can
immediate turn my computer on again because I still have heaps of charge
left.

neighbouring workspace has focus in 2 workspaces. This is annoying when
you change between this workspaces frequently. Please fix.

I too had this problem for several weeks. It has now gone away. When it
happened to me I would:
sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
This would enable networking until next reboot. Is this a similar

Running Ubuntu 8.10 beta on a Toshiba Portege M600 with an acer AL23416W
monitor and an Intel GMA 950 graphics driver...
My preferred configuration is to close the laptop lid and use the
external monitor as a single display. This was possible in Har
Rebooted today and desktop effects are working, even though I had not
successfully enabled a graphics driver.
Perhaps earlier the process was successful, but no rendering of jockey-
gtk took place?

Here's a temporary fix. In the extended preferences config, if you
enable "Allow buddy list to shrink below normal size constraints", this
bug will stop showing itself.
Without disabling this the buddy list continuously expands horizontally
as described AND gaim will do a core dump upon exit.

I installed extendedprefs ("sudo aptitude install gaim-extendedprefs"),
restarted gaim and witnessed this bug.
I removed extendedprefs ("sudo aptitude remove gaim-extendedprefs"),
