Now after reboot i can no longer reproduce the bug. I experienced the
bug on an up-to-date Ubuntu 10.04 amd64 install with empathy 2.30.2 -
so the bug is still not fixed and will probably stay there until someone
figures out how to reproduce it for sure, and whats causing it.

In the debug dlaiog i get different logs whether i open it before or after
trying to add a contact:
for example this is only shown if the dialog is opened _after_ trying:

I have run into this problem after upgrading to Kubuntu 8.10. On
reboot/shutdown it hangs after sendsigs "All processes ended within 2
seconds." Daniels patch didnt help, but having the umountnfs.sh run
before sendsigs like suggested by Jörg fixed it for me.
