I borrowed a DVI dongle, and experienced the same behavior.
Still using the binary driver (which has a fix for the Qt issue). I
would vastly prefer to use nouveau.

I am experiencing the same behavior. To this excellent documentation I
will only be able to add the observation that the system "pause" happens
when running xrandr as well, and the proposed fix does not work for me
on Kubuntu 10.10, as I am experiencing another, catastrophic bug using
the binary d
