changes. which I've added to the document.
A solution such as what other distros use, as suggested by Ron above,
would be more than sufficient.

consistently crashes Open Office. Opening the file with Ubuntu does not
cause a crash, nor with Open Office 2.0.x (the default in Kubuntu Edgy).

How does the fact that more memory solved my identical problem mean I'm

Adding more memory to the machine has solved the problem for me in
multiple cases.

Without knowing the intricacies, surely this should be quite easy to
fix? Gnome-based apps such as Thunderbird use /etc/alternatives/x-www-
browser. So when the default browser is changed, can it not change the
default there as well?
This is one of the major gripes new Kubuntu users have :)

Yes, I also have no internet connection - I only tried this once in
Dapper and got a whole lot of errors, one of which I think was the above
error. See https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/kubuntu-
meta/+bug/70240 for specifics of Edgy's slightly different behaviour.

The error message:
I think there's a problem with the network card on the machine. Either way, I
don't have internet access. This seems to be common with others who're having
this problem (see also
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/kubuntu-meta/+bug/49950).

Same error, running the live CD (Kubuntu Edgy Eft 6.10, Desktop) on an
old machine. I also get it with the Dapper Drake 6.0.6.1 live CD,
although also with other error messages there.
Can't get a screenshot off the machine, but it's a standard grey popup
error box, with the red 'X' on the left. He
