I can confirm the same behavious as Bernhard, in that I suffer the
random backlight flashes when moving the cursor following a period of
inactivity, and running
xrandr --output LVDS --set BACKLIGHT_CONTROL combination
corrects the problem.

I can replicate the problem on Hardy and have found that limiting upload
and download speeds to around 50% of the maximum possible enables use of
the network for other applications.

I have been having similar problems with both Banshee 1.0.0 and 1.2.0 on
Hardy. My 3G classic iPod (connected by firewire) mounts, appears on
the desktop and works fine with Rhythmbox, but Banshee does not pick it
up. I don't have any outstanding updates.
