OpenGL works fine on my system outside of pyqt5. It also works with the
qtdeclarative5-examples (tested with dynamicscene.qml)

I can confirm that after replacing /usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftops with the

Some additional info:
System messages from the printer works, like "Toner low" etc.
lpq reports the printer as ready, and shows entries when local jobs get
submitted.
